Source : Farsnews

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Kurdish fighters made major advances against the Al-Qaeda terrorists in Reef (countryside of) Yarubiya and set ablaze two oil tankers stolen by the militants.

Kurdish militants from Committees for the Protection of the Kurdish People seized and torched two crude oil tankers that the Al-Nusra Front terrorists had stolen from Al-Fazel Fuel Station in Reef Yarubiya.

Meantime, the Syrian Kurdish fighters also made major advances in Tal Halaf and Mosharefeh towns in Hasaka Province.

The Syrian Kurdish fighters have intensified their attacks against the Al-Qaeda-linked terrorists in recent weeks.

On Saturday, the Kurdish fighters seized the sole border post held by Al-Qaeda-linked groups on their border with Iraq, Kurdish sources and an Iraqi official said.

Kurdish militants seized the border post on Saturday, after three days of clashes with an Al-Qaeda-linked group which had held the crossing since March, Al-Alam reported.

According to the armed Kurdish group YPG, fighting carried on through the morning.

The Yarubiya post and surrounding areas in the Northeast were taken from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorist group which is an offshoot of Al-Qaeda in Syria. An Iraqi intelligence official confirmed that Kurdish rebels held the crossing point, adding that Baghdad brought reinforcements to the area to prevent any spillover of violence.

"There were heavy battles in which all types of weapons were used," said the Iraqi official on condition of anonymity in line with regulations. "Iraqi forces are ready to repel any attack."

Kurdish groups control a large swath of Northern Syria. Clashes between their fighters and militants have killed hundreds of people in the past months.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against the Syrian police, border guards, statesmen, army and civilians being reported across the country.

Thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

Syrian Army Continues Advances, Kills Tens of Militants in Reef Idlib

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army continued its mop-up operations in Reef Idlib in Northwestern Syria, and killed tens of armed rebels in heavy clashes.

The army’s units pounded positions of an armed group in the forests of the Southeastern parts of Al-Arbaeen mountainous region in Reef Idlib, killing 26 militants in heavy clashes.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against the Syrian police, border guards, statesmen, army and the civilians being reported across the country.

Thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes.

The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.

In October 2011, calm was almost restored in most parts of the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies brought the country into chaos through every possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of increasing unrests in Syria.

The US daily, Washington Post, reported in May, 2012 that the Syrian rebels and terrorist groups battling Assad's government have received significantly more and better weapons in recent weeks, a crime paid for by the Persian Gulf Arab states and coordinated by the United States.

The newspaper, quoting opposition activists and US and foreign officials, reported that Obama administration officials emphasized the administration has expanded contacts with opposition military forces to provide the Persian Gulf nations with assessments of rebel credibility and command-and-control infrastructure.

According to the report, material was being stockpiled in Damascus, in Idlib near the Turkish border and in Zabadani on the Lebanese border.

Opposition activists who several months ago said the rebels were running out of ammunition said in May that the flow of weapons - most bought on the black market in neighboring countries or from elements of the Syrian military in the past - has significantly increased after a decision by Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Persian Gulf states to provide millions of dollars in funding each month.

Al-Nusra Out of Syria's Ancient Sadad Town

Via : OrthoChristian.Com

Syrian Army regained control of the ancient town of Sadad after days of intensive fighting with militants from al-Nusra terrorist group.

Around two thousand militants from the Al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front stormed and occupied the ancient town of Sadad, 60 kilometers (37 mi) South of Homs, nearly a month ago and sieged its fifteen thousand residents to use them as human shields against the Syrian army, Al-Alam reported.

The militant groups who were driven out of Sadad were from the same groups that raided Syria's ancient Christian town of Maalula in Northeast of Damascus a couple of months ago.

Terrorists had taken Sadad to turn it into their stronghold for the al-Qalamoun war which both sides are getting ready for, an army member said.

Clashes between the army and militants in some Western and Northern parts of the town are still going on.

Sadad is a very old town and probably the one mentioned in the Old Testament under the name Zedad, translated as Sedada.

It is located on the edge of the desert and the community has remained predominantly Syriac Orthodox. Aramaic is still spoken there.

Moreover, a recent report commissioned by UN agencies says the devastating conflict in Syria has left over half of the country's population in poverty.

Behind the Scenes: Top Level Gulf Officials in Syria Soon!

Source : http://www.almanar.com.lb

Highly trusted sources have revealed that some gulf countries are on the course of gradual rapprochement with Syrian official authorities after reaching a conclusion that all their past policies were mistaken. Some sources said they would not be surprised to see top level Gulf officials in Damascus soon.

14th of March partisans openly express their bitter disappointment because they yielded no success in their attempts to tighten their grip over the country depending on the international and regional support. One of their sources used sarcasm saying ever since they followed Samir Geagea, they have become sworn experts in losing all battles they wage.

Recent visitors coming from Washington expressed big surprise because of the huge change they came across in the way US officials approach problems in the region. America came finally to recognize the vital importance of the Iranian role in preserving and guaranteeing stability in the whole region, they added.

Syria frees dozens more women in hostage deal

Source : Voice of Russia

Syrian authorities have freed dozens of women prisoners and cleared a prominent young blogger for release in one of the final stages of a three-way hostage deal, a monitoring group said on Thursday.

President Bashar al-Assad's government has released 61 women over the past two days as part of the Qatari- and Turkish-brokered deal, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

A Syrian court also granted amnesty to Tal al-Mallohi, a blogger arrested while in her late teens more than a year before the revolt in Syria began in March 2011, the Observatory said.

Mallohi, the grand-daughter of a former minister, was detained for political writing in 2009. The pro-opposition Observatory said her release was imminent.

The release of around 200 detained Syrian women was the main demand of kidnappers in northern Syria who had held nine Lebanese men hostage for 17 months. Those hostages and two Turkish pilots abducted in August by Lebanese gunmen in retaliation were freed last week.

Norway mulls taking and destroying the bulk of Syria’s chemical arsenal

Source : http://breakingnews.sy/en

Norway is considering a request to take the bulk of Syria’s chemical weapons stockpile for eventual destruction, an official said Tuesday. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Ragnhild Imerslund told The Associated Press that the U.N. and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which are working together to eliminate the deadly arsenal, would like to see the stockpile of chemicals destroyed in one country outside Syria. “But the best solution for them is not necessarily the best solution for Norway,” said Imerslund. She said Norway is refusing to handle chemical weapons loaded onto warheads and ready for use, but is considering accepting mixed chemicals and chemical precursors that can be mixed to make deadly nerve agents. The U.N. has informed Norway that Syria has 50 metric tons of mixed chemicals in the form of mustard gas and some 300-500 metric tons of materials needed to make nerve agents. Imerslund said her government is consulting with a working group made up of environmentalists, military analysts, lawyers, and other ministries. Norwegian officials have yet to select a possible site for destruction, a decision which could lead to protests from nearby municipalities and regions. A recent survey by InFact, a pollster, said 48 percent of the population opposed destroying Syria’s chemical stockpile on Norwegian soil, compared with just 30 percent who support it. Jorn Siljeholm, a former U.N. weapons inspector in Iraq, said Norway is capable of destroying the chemicals safely, providing it can be over months or even years. “It is technically feasible for Norway to destroy these chemicals. This is purely a political decision,” he said. Observers said the mid-2014 deadline for the destruction of Syria’s arsenal, which was set by the United States and Russia, could also be a problem. It is “a deadline that would be impossible to meet since Norway at the moment doesn’t have any facilities to destroy these chemicals,” said Nils Boehmer, a manager at Bellona, a Norway- based environmental group. Imerslund stressed that Norway would not be forced into meeting any deadlines unilaterally set by other organizations.

Al-Qaeda sent 50 suicide bombers to attack Aleppo prison

Source : http://en.alalam.ir/news

Al-Qaeda-linked militant groups have retreated after two days of futile attacks on Aleppo’s central prison in northwest of Syria, which were blocked by the Syrian army.

Militants from al-Nusra Front, Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIS), both offshoots of al-Qaeda operating in Syria, along with Shaam al-Islam and Lewa al-Towhid militant groups brought Aleppo’s central province under attack two days ago but they had to step back on Saturday after suffering heavy losses.

The Arabic language Asia News quoted sources among militants as saying that, the terrorist groups sent 50 suicide bombers to open their way to the prison, but they failed to get in.

The sources said this was the first time they used this many suicide bombers in a single mission, according to Asia News.

Most of the suicide attackers who were killed in their attacks had foreign nationalities including Iraqi and Palestinian.

A source close to al-Nusra Front was quoted as saying that the armed groups have retreated and there only ten people left around the prison. Aleppo’s prison holds a large number of al-Nusra and ISIS terrorists.

The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of Western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

A Kazakh family of 150 heads to Syria for “Jihad”

Source : http://breakingnews.sy/en

As hundreds of thousands of Syrians flee the war in their country, others are doing everything they can to reach the battle zones. Around 150 Kazakhs said to be from the same family – including very young children, teenagers, women and men – left their country “to fulfil their duty of jihad in the Levant”. Jihadist networks have been proudly circulating images of their relocation to Syria. Since Monday, a propaganda video uploaded by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), an Al-Qaeda affiliated group, has been doing the rounds of jihadist social networks. Its title is dramatic: “Letters from epic battlefields, the hospitality of a jihadist family” and the video’s content is unprecedented. The video begins with a military march, followed by the arrival of three vehicles carrying the black flags of Al-Qaeda and ISIL as they arrive at the gates of a villa. Within minutes, we see, in white text on a black background: “The al-Furqan Institute [the media arm of ISIL] enjoys the hospitality of a Muhajir [foreign] family. The 150 members of this Kazakh family travelled for thousands of kilometers and spent a fortune to immigrate to the Levant”. Then, we hear a small boy read verses from the Quran before we see around 20 children, including babies just a few months old, seated on the ground next to teenage jihadists. We also see young girls wearing veils, some wearing the niqab. After this, we see the small boy who has been reciting the Koran; he appears to be not older than six. At 2:57, a young man who goes by the war name “Abdel-Rahman the Kazakh” explains why his family has come to Syria. He says he wants to “fulfill his duty as set out by the precepts of Islam”. He continues by reciting a verse on the glory of martyrs, whose ranks he hopes “to join as soon as possible to ascend to paradise”. At 5:07, “Abu Khaled the Kazakh”, another young jihadist who appears to be a bit older, says he too wants “to die as a martyr”. Foreign jihadists generally go by a war name that includes their country of origin. In this case, their war names indicate these men most probably came from Kazakhstan, a former Soviet republic in Central Asia that is about 5,000 kilometers from Syria. Later in the video, we hear in the background a song on the glory of international jihad, listing “battlegrounds” from the Philippines to the Sahel, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Caucasus, Bosnia and, of course, the Levant, that is, Syria. The video then moves on to a third jihadist, “Seif al-Din the Kazakh”, who explains that “it is every Muslim’s duty to join jihad to defend Muslim lands across the world when they come under attack.” At 13:22, “Abu Hafiz the Kazakh” thanks God for “allowing the family to emigrate and to be together in Syria to fulfill its duty of jihad”. This is the first time that a video showing an entire family of foreign jihadists has been published. Usually, jihadists travel alone – or in couples, in rare cases – to conflict zones. The fighters in this family are presented as candidates for martyrdom, or suicide attacks, as shown by a reference to Abu Zunair al-Madani, @halb_1 on Twitter, at 15:39 in the video. The Saudi blew himself up in mid-September in Nabak, in the Qalamoun region west of Damascus
