Syrian Army Makes Major Advances in Mountainous Areas of Reef Idlib

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army made major advances in a strategic mountainous area in Reef (countryside of) Idlib in Northwestern Syria on Monday, inflicting heavy casualties on the armed rebels.The army units purged militants from the mountainous regions of Jabal Al-Arbaeen in Reef  Idlib, and killed more than 10 armed rebels and injured dozens more in heavy clashes, FNA dispatches said.The Syrian army’s artillery units, concurrent with operations in Jabal Al-Arbaeen, pounded the gathering centers of the armed rebels in Kafr Lateh and Marzaf towns and also shelled the roads linking Bazabour village to Zerjeh village.The army also repelled the armed rebels’ attack on Al-Qiyasat checkpoint in Al-Rami town in Reef Idlib. Tens of armed rebels were killed and dozens more injured during the heavy clashes over the Al-Qiyasat checkpoint.Earlier in the day, the Syrian army repelled armed rebels’ attack on a military base in Reef Idlib.The army units fiercely clashed and pushed back the armed rebels from Qaminas town in Reef Idlib before they could attack and capture the military base.Meantime, the armed rebels attacked a police headquarters and Carlton Hotel in Idlib city with improvised missiles.There were no reports on the possible number of casualties or damage to properties by the armed rebels’ attack on the Idlib city.Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against the Syrian police, border guards, statesmen, army and civilians being reported across the country.Thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes.The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
