Reports are coming in of heavy fighting between Syrian government forces and rebels in the historical centre of Syria’s second city Aleppo.

Many of the city’s architectural treasures are under threat.

Aleppo is into its umpteenth month as a war zone.

In Damascus, meanwhile, terrorists have detonated two powerful car bombs, injuring a pro-government television reporter.

Saudi officer among Syrian opposition fighters killed in Maarret

A Saudi army officer has been killed by Syrian government troops during clashes with armed opposition formations in the west of the country.

The officer, Mohammad Salem al-Harbi has been fighting alongside the rebels in the city of Maarret an-Nouman about 70 km from Aleppo. Several Turkish mercenaries were also killed.

The internal conflict in Syria has been raging for more than a year and a half. The government says it is confronted by well-armed militants receiving outside help.
