Many of the city’s architectural treasures are under threat.

In Damascus, meanwhile, terrorists have detonated two powerful car bombs, injuring a pro-government television reporter.
Saudi officer among Syrian opposition fighters killed in Maarret
A Saudi army officer has been killed by Syrian government troops during clashes with armed opposition formations in the west of the country.
The officer, Mohammad Salem al-Harbi has been fighting alongside the rebels in the city of Maarret an-Nouman about 70 km from Aleppo. Several Turkish mercenaries were also killed.
The internal conflict in Syria has been raging for more than a year and a half. The government says it is confronted by well-armed militants receiving outside help.
