The Syrian government troops conducted a major special operation Friday to crush armed rebel groups that had been active on approaches to Damascus.

According to the Surya TV channel, the opposition fighters’ strongholds have been destroyed in Rankous, Mlikha and Mazari-Rima .

Syrian army units have regained control over the built-up areas of Tell-Sakkah, Delbah and Al-Mansouriya.

The SANA news agency quotes military sources as saying that the last three extremist groups, namely the Islamic Army, the Black Battalion and the Prophet’s Grandsons,which threatened the capital city, were wiped out in the environs of Damascus, in the East Goutah area.

Dozens of rebel fighters together with their commanders were killed; arms caches and transport vehicles were seized
